Herman L. Waltzer, 91, of West Mansfield on Thursday, May 23, 2019 reunited with his angel, Alice. Surrounded by his loving family at home.
Born November 1, 1927 on the family homestead in Logan County near Zanesfield, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Mary E (Marmon) Waltzer. On June 12, 1948 in Zanesfield, he married his wife of over 68 years, Alice M. (Titus) and she preceded him in death on February 1, 2017.In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Waltzer; sisters, Ethel Jackson and Ida Henry; brothers-in law, Gordon Wyandt, Robert Jackson, Dewey Ford, Bill Bialecki, Jim Copp and Paul Ramsey.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa, Herman was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in Co D 44th Tank Batallion on “Operation Cleanup.” When he returned home, he worked in plastering, carpentry, remodeling and clock repair. He and Alice were dedicated volunteers for the Friends Disaster Relief Organization which carried them all over the country helping those in need after natural disasters. They helped clean up and rebuild homes and churches. He was a member of the former Friends Church in West Mansfield and was currently attending the West Mansfield Church of Christ. In his spare time, he enjoyed cabinet making, putting puzzles together, mowing the yard, having tea parties and playing ball with his great grandkids. His deeds here have undoubtedly earned him a great reward in Heaven, As much as we didn’t want to see him go, he is in great hands and will be singing or whistling songs of praise and joy for all eternity with his wife Alice by his side.
He is survived by his children, Tina Dill of West Mansfield, Tony (Gina) Waltzer of Bellefontaine, Tami (Kenny) Kline of East Liberty and Teresa (Steve) Fields of West Mansfield; grandchildren, Jason (Andrea) Keller, Jordan (Julie) Keller, Nick Waltzer, Lucas (Michelle) Waltzer, Tyler (Sabrina) Venture, Bryant Dill, Nate (Lisa) Fields and Caitie Fields; great grandchildren, Lahna, Llewyn, Langston and Lyle Keller, Aly and Lexi Reames, Aiden, Hudson and Eli Keller, Isabel and Ardun Fields and Emilia Waltzer along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
