Betty Smart-Stierhoff

August 4, 1929 — June 25, 2017

Betty Lou Smart-Stierhoff, 87, of Marysville, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Kobacker House in Columbus. Born August 4, 1929 in Marysville, she was the daughter of the late Max and Elizabeth (Mellon) Spain. In 1949 she married Ashton V. "Jack" Smart, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1995 as well as their son Jeffrey A. Smart in 1964. She later married Ted Stierhoff who also preceded her in death along with her three brothers, Norman, Garrel and Robert Spain and two sisters, Margorie Bolls and Nancy Jones. A graduate of Marysville High School, Betty was first and foremost a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the Office Manager of the family business, Smart Oil, Inc. in Marysville, working alongside her husband Jack for more than 30 years. She was a faithful member of more than 50 years of the First United Methodist Church. To say that Betty was an avid card player would be putting it mildly, as she "took no prisoners" when it came to a good card game. She loved playing games of all sorts, watching soap operas, walking, hiking, and staying fit and active. She enjoyed shopping, spending time at the lake house and boating on Indian Lake with Jack and in her later years, wintering in Florida with Ted. Surviving are her children, William L. (Vickie) Smart of Lewis Center, Diane L. Schmidt (Edward) of Keller, TX and Tamara S. Duffy of Westerville; grandchildren, Katherine Schmidt (Adam Hauser) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Ashton Duffy of Westerville, Mackenzie Smart of Lewis Center and Laura Duffy of Westerville; great grandchildren, Rayne Brewer and Audrey Hauser and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery next to her husband Jack. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the funeral home.
