Danny L. "Dan" Smith, age 78, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, following a brief illness. Born on November 10, 1946, he led a life filled with love, family, and dedication.
Dan embarked on a fulfilling career that began at Tecumseh Products in Marion, later continuing at United Rotary Brush in Marysville. His professional journey was characterized by hard work and commitment, qualities that he instilled in those around him.
A man of many passions, Dan enjoyed going to flea markets and had an impressive collection of toy tractors and antiques. He was also an avid fan of sports, particularly cherishing his time watching Ohio State Basketball and Football. His love for animals showcased his gentle and caring nature, traits that endeared him to so many.
Family was at the heart of Dan's life. He is survived by his wife, Mendy Sue (Ogden) Smith; a son, Yancy (Tina) Smith of Richwood; a daughter, LeeAnna (Brian) Raines of York Center; his grandchildren, Ashley (Dylan) Barger, Jared Smith, Breanna Raines, and Gage Raines; his great granddaughter, Harper Malone; brothers, Sam Smith of Mt. Victory, Fred (Arthena) Smith of Marysville and Jim Smith of Alabama, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan's proudest accomplishments included serving as a foster parent for many years, where he opened his heart and home to 37 children, leaving a legacy of compassion and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Eileen (Cummings) Smith; a grandson, Jaycob Fox; and his sister, Rita Monroe.
Services to honor Dan’s memory will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Burial will follow at the York Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the funeral home.
