Dorothy 'Dot' Jean Scheiderer Sweeney, 83, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 19, 2017. She was born November 20, 1933 to the late Alfred and Marie Scheiderer. On September 27,1951, she married Thomas Shields Sweeney. She was preceded in death by her spouse, her brothers, Curtis, Bill, and Lowell Fredrick Scheiderer; sisters, Margaret Luke, Lillian Erwin, Valarie Jane Reese; brothers and sisters in law, Dorthea and Gene Werst, Gilbert Luke, Francis Erwin, Evan Reese, and Bobby and Peg Scheiderer. She is survived by her children, Larry (Maryann) and Patricia (Kenneth Coakley) Sweeney of Marysville, and Barbara (Mark) Jackson of Pisgah Forest, NC; sister, Ramona (James) Frasher of Gainesville Florida; grandsons Jim (Kacey) Sweeney of Powell, Joe Sweeney and his fiancé Tracey Fung of Arlington, VA, and Jesse (Caitlin) Combs of Indianapolis; great grandchildren Jackson and Theodore Sweeney and Finley Combs; sister in law Pat Scheiderer; and many nieces and nephews. She was a 1951 graduate of Marysville High School. Shortly after graduating , she accompanied her husband to the East coast, where he served in the Air Force. After they returned to Union County, Dot held numerous jobs including work as a shipping correspondent at PPG industries in Delaware. She retired in 1981 to work on home decorating projects, garden, golf and travel with her husband. She especially enjoyed traveling to Germany with her sisters in 1992 to visit their ancestral home. She and Tom spent 20 winters in Myrtle Beach where she enjoyed beach combing, golfing and hosting winter weary relatives and friends. A 30 year volunteer for Mobile Meals, she retired from service November 2016 She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A great cook, she hosted many family gatherings and was always ready for impromptu party. In life, as well in cooking, her philosophy was simple: "don't skimp on the good stuff". Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Wilson Funeral Home-Mannasmith Chapel. Reverend Kathy Reiff will officiate and burial will follow at Watkins Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Union County Humane Society, the Marysville Food pantry or Mobile Meals.
