Eleanor Cross

March 4, 1930 — March 6, 2017

Eleanor L. Cross, 87, of Marysville, died Monday, March 6, 2017 at The Gables in Marysville. She was a loving homemaker, devoted wife, mother and friend. She was born on March 4, 1930 at her home in Broadway to the late Glenn J. and Marvel Wilson Hamilton. Eleanor graduated from Broadway High School in 1948. Amongst other activities Eleanor was a cheerleader. From there she went on to graduate from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology in 1949. Eleanor went on to marry the late Lisle Cross on July 1, 1950. They were married for 57 years until he passed on December 25, 2007. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Marysville. Here, she would worship and cherish her friendships. She especially enjoyed the sermons that Bill and Mark would share with the congregation. Eleanor lived a busy, engaging and fulfilling life. She served her community in many ways, including her longtime volunteerism with the Union County Board of Elections. She was also a member of the Women's League of the local Elks Lodge. Her powerful work ethic saw her making many positive contributions to two of Marysville's storied favorites. She worked at both the Stockdale Community Market and Shield's Pharmacy. She did all of this while nurturing and loving her husband and her five children. Eleanor found joy in making things for her loved ones. She enjoyed crocheting and quilt making. She made countless afghans for her children and their children; she made them for both friends and family. These were regarded as priceless, one could feel the love. That same love was applied to all her cooking. From her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to her fried chicken, everyone truly enjoyed and appreciated her ability to put together delicious home cooked meals. Eleanor loved to travel, especially to Texas where two of her sons would make their home. She enjoyed fishing and camping as it always brought her family together. She also loved to play bingo and attend craft shows. These events, among others, almost required the company of her best friend, her sister Charlene! Hardly a day went by when she and her sister were not together. A friendship and sisterhood that was so loving and pure. Eleanor was also a true and dedicated sports fan. She gained great appreciation for sports while her children participated and that appreciation only multiplied as she followed her grandchildren's activities. She also had interest in gambling. She was a winner! A modest amount of time in the casino was time well spent. Again, it was another place where she would be with her family enjoying activity and time together. Eleanor had a light and kind sense of humor that served her well. She was a most genuine person. Her company was welcomed by all. She did things for the good of doing them; she did things that helped others. We counted and relied on her, and she was there for us. The Family would like to thank the professionals and friends at The Gables of Marysville. The love and care they provided each day was above and beyond, and so very much appreciated. The family is truly grateful. Survivors include her sister: Charlene "Butch" Segner of Raymond and her sister-in-law Judy Cross of Kenton.
