Eugene Thompson Eugene Thompson, age 80, of Marysville died Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving and caring family. He was employed as a boiler operator for 23 years with the Columbus Public Schools, and the former Neil House hotel for 11 years, and he and his wife were employed at the Collins Laundromat for 43 yrs. He was a hard worker, a history buff, and enjoyed reading, painting, and fixing things. He served his country during the Korean conflict as a member of the US Marine Corp. He attended the Marysville Bible Baptist Church and the Raymond Church of Christ in Christian Union. But, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He was born February 18, 1932, in Louisa, Kentucky, to the late Jay and Alma Jane (Cunningham) Thompson. He was preceded in death by a brother, William H. Thompson; a sister, Ruth Thompson McCarty; 3 brother-in-laws, Talmadge Sparks, and James R. (JR) Daniels, and Gene McCarty; and 2 sister-in laws, Vivian D.Daniels and Lillian M. Sparks. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Opal A. Sparks Burt Thompson, to whom he was married on February 7, 1965; his sons, Roger D. (Judy) Burt and John J. (Toni) Thompson both of Raymond.; 4 grandchildren, Joshua L. Burt, Kelsey M. Burt, Kayla L. Thompson, and Kristen M. Thompson.; his brother, Curtis Thompson, Washington Courthouse; his sister-in-laws, Alma R. Daniels, Anne (Melvin) Daniels, Mary K. (Tim) Kibbey, all of Marysville. 2 brother-in-laws, Bob J. Daniels, Marysville and Bobby G (Virginia) Sparks, Medway; and several nieces, nephews and countless friends. Reverend Jeremy Stout will officiate the funeral services on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marysville Bible Baptist Church at 404 S. Oak St. He will be assisted by Rev. Warren Goble of the Raymond Church of Christ in Christian Union. Burial will follow at Somerford Cemetery, Somerford, OH, with Military Services conducted by the Union County Honor Guard. Friends may call Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 3-8 p.m. at Mannasmith Funeral Home, Marysville, OH.
