George Cronkleton

George William Cronkleton, 95, of West Mansfield, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Rita's Hospital in Lima. He was born on Feb. 11, 1922 at the family homestead located north of West Mansfield, to the late Joseph and Hilda Fout Cronkleton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Cronkleton. George married Bernadine Reames on November 23, 1944 and they just celebrated their 73rd anniversary on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughter, Linda (Dale) Goff of Bellefontaine; his son, Clifford (Becky) Cronkleton of Bellefontaine; six grandchildren; Lyn (David) Liner of Qutar, Tyler (Jennifer) Goff of Statham, Georgia, Randy Goff of Bellefontaine, Nathan (Amanda) Cronkleton of Brooksville, Mississippi, Nicholas (Katie) Cronkleton of West Mansfield, and Adam (Anna) Cronkleton of Bellefontaine. He was very proud of his eleven great grandchildren: Sawyer and Elizabeth Liner and Kalyn, Lexi, Cole, Lainey, Cooper, Natalie, Emily, Luke, and Jacob Cronkleton. George graduated from West Mansfield High School, and went on to an airplane mechanic school in Tennessee. Soon after, he joined the army air corps and served as an airplane mechanic on B 24's during World War II. George then returned home to farm, where he was a member of the West Mansfield United Methodist Church. Farming was in his blood and he farmed all his life, even driving tractor for his grandsons up until 2015. George and Bernadine had a dairy farm for many years. He was a great mechanic and could fix anything. Some of his best moments came when he was working on his beloved John Deere tractors. His family will miss him greatly. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield where funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Douglas Thompson will officiate and burial will follow at North Greenfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the West Mansfield United Methodist Church.
