Herbert Arthur Mortimore, 90, affectionately known as "Art," passed away peacefully at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine on Friday, August 15, 2025, following a brief illness. Born April 4, 1935 in West Mansfield, he reunites with his parents, Harold and Thelma (Klefman) Mortimore, his loving wife, Shirley, his daughter-in-law (Dick’s wife), Vickie Mortimore; a sister, Gwendolyn Burton; a his brother, Eugene Mortimore and his previous wife, Mary Phyllis Runyon.
He graduated from Perry Zane High School in 1953 and embarked on a life dedicated to service and family. He proudly served for 28 years in the 251st United States Army Reserve Company in Kenton, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Art began his career as a machinist with Rockwell in Bellefontaine, before moving to a role with the Department of Defense in Columbus, from which he retired. True to his industrious nature, he continued to work for an additional 13 years as a security guard with Acruex/Genric, refusing to sit still during his retirement. A longtime, active member of the North Greenfield Methodist Church, Art was known for his kind and warm-hearted demeanor, always greeting those around him with a smile. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Shirley E. (Good) Mortimore, whom he married March 14, 1981 in North Greenfield. A loving father and grandfather, Art was blessed with a large family that includes his sons, Robert (Sherry) Mortimore, Mike (Brenda) Mortimore, James “Dick” Mortimore, Ken (Melissa) Bennett; his daughters, Vicky Lynn Mortimore, Nina Mortimore, and Teresa Mortimore. He also cherished his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate Art's life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at the North Greenfield Methodist Church 9609 C.R. 2 West Mansfield. Burial will follow next to his wife at the North Greenfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Greenfield Methodist Church, the Friendly Senior Center or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and envelopes will be available at the church.
