James T. Benedict James T. Benedict, age 91, of Marysville died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Heartland of Marysville following an extended illness. He retired as a supervisor with Eljers Plumbing where he had worked for over 30 years. He was a graduate of Salem High School, served his country during World War II in the US Army, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Jim was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and enjoyed his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus and the Marysville Evening Lions Club. Jim was an avid golfer and was especially proud to have hit a hole-in-one using a 5 Iron on Blues Creek's 156 yard hole #9 on May 17, 1988, at age 66. He enjoyed reading and watching Westerns and Tarzan, and was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born January 9, 1922, in Leetonia to the late Joseph and Rosa Saccitti Benedict. He was proud of his Italian immigrant parents and was mindful that his father's name was changed from Antibenedetto to Benedict when they entered America. He married Ana Cosgarea on August 30, 1947, and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2008. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Louis (Viola) Benedict and August (Leucille) Benedict, and 2 sisters, Perina (Carl) Kaiser and Mary Benedict. Survivors include his 2 sons, Jim (Carol) Benedict, Westerville; and Denny Benedict, Columbus; 2 grandchildren, Jim (Johannah) Benedict and Heather (Jeff) Podracky, 4 great-grandchildren, Jordin and Jenna Benedict and Delaney and Peyton Podracky, 2 sisters-in-law, Victoria Bodendorfer, Lathrup Village, MI; and Mary Ann Cosgarea, Talmadge; several nieces and nephews; and his church family. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013, at Mannasmith Funeral Home, Marysville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 26, at11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1033 West Fifth St., Marysville. Reverend David Poliafico will officiate and burial with military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard will take place at the church cemetery.
