Judy K. Coons, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on November 26, 1940, in Union County, Judy led a life marked by her commitment to her family and her career.
Judy devoted many years of her life to serving the public as a dispatcher for the Logan County Sheriff's Office, where her calm demeanor and support were invaluable to her colleagues and the community. She approached her work with a genuine dedication that left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
In her younger years, Judy showed horses, showcasing her love for these majestic animals. She also found joy in traveling and camping, often exploring the great outdoors and creating wonderful memories with family and friends. Most of all, Judy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her legacy continues through her loving family, which includes her daughter, Tammy Yelton, and her son, Robert "Bob" Coons, both of Bellefontaine. Judy was also a proud grandmother to Kyle (Saige) Yelton, Larrilyn (Ethan) Grant, both of Dayton and Lawrence (Felicia) Coons of Charleston, SC; and her great-grandchildren, Elliana Grant, Auriana Grant, and Emmett Cantrell, who brought immense joy to her life.
Judy is also survived by her sister, Carola Munz of The Villages, FL. and a sister-in-law, Alice Liggett of Marysville along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Coons, whom she married May 24, 1960; her parents, Owen Wayne and Frieda Lodell (Hickok) Liggett; her brother, Gary Liggett; a sister, Connie Miller Forsythe and her in-laws, Charles “Red” and Martha “Louise” Coons.
A memorial service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Burial will follow at the York Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Union County Humane Society or the Discovery Riders, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilsonfuneralhomesinc.com
