Mary Jane Freeman, a beloved matriarch and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at her son's residence in Manassas Park, VA. Born on May 27, 1929, in Marysville, she touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.
A 1947 graduate of Marysville High School, Mary dedicated her life to her family and her community. Alongside her late husband, George E. Freeman, Jr., she operated a motel near Newark, a nursing home in Magnetic Springs, and a retirement home in West Mansfield, deeply influencing the lives of those they served. Her commitment to the welfare of others was complemented by her longstanding volunteer work at the Senior Center in Marysville, where she served for over 20 years. Mary also held a special place in her heart for the First United Methodist Church (now the Global Methodist Church) in Marysville, where she formerly attended.
As a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother, Mary’s legacy of kindness and compassion will forever be remembered by her family. She is survived by her children, Cathy Phillips of Middleburg, Larry Freeman of Ostrander, Terry (Daryl) Schindewolf of Ostrander, Nancy (Chris) Reames of Bellefontaine, and Mark (Joan) Freeman of Manassas Park, VA; her grandchildren, Laura Ledley, John Frazier, Jeremy Frazier, Dustin Freeman, Laramie Hanson, Erica Skaggs, Logan Freeman, Alexander Freeman, Christopher Freeman, Megan Stacey, Adam Tracey, James Freeman, Audra DeLeon, Jeremy Reames, Josh Reames and Jacey Strayer. She is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 72 years, George E. Freeman, Jr.; her parents, Harry and Laura (Gregg) Sarver; a son, George “Ed” Freeman, grandsons, Jason and Eric Frazier; as well as seven brothers, two sisters and her best friend, Betty Smart.
Services to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 11:00 A.M on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel 621 W. 5th St. Marysville. Burial will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery, next to her husband. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at the funeral home.
