Mikey P. Finan, 71, of Marysville, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Memorial Hospital of Union County following a brief illness. He was born on October 7, 1954, in Cleveland and grew up in Maple Heights.
Mikey will be remembered as a warm and social presence who loved being around people, whether at a gathering or simply in a store – he didn’t know a stranger. He found true joy in the simple things: listening to his favorite music; snagging colored markers and little trinkets that were special to him to share later; creating his own unique art; and bringing smiles to those around him by handing out colorful beaded necklaces and his drawings. Mikey was also great at turning off a light. He treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, roommates and the staff and friends at Downsize Farms, in Woodstock, Ohio.
Throughout the years, Mikey participated at various workshops and developmental disability centers. He also liked going to church and was involved with the Special Olympics. These parts of his life brought him connection, purpose, and a strong sense of community.
He is survived by his brothers, Bob Finan of Cleveland and Dan Finan of Middleburg Heights; his sisters, JoAnne (Kenn) Hetzel of Mantua, Karen (Joe) Kosoglov of Carmel, Indiana, and Sherry (Pete) Marino of Marysville; his brother-in-law, Rich Gerbasi of Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward with love. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Finan Sr.; his mother, Treva M. (Bacher) Finan; his brother, Jimmy Finan; his sister, Debbie Gerbasi; and his sister-in-law, Maureen Finan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel, 621 W. 5th St. Marysville, Ohio 43040. A Mass will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1033 W. 5th St., Marysville, Ohio 43040 with Reverend Kevin Kavanagh, officiating. A Celebration of Life and Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or CRSI (Mikey’s home away from home), in care of the funeral home.
