Reverend George Shreve Freer Reverend George Shreve Freer, age 76, retired minister with the Evangelical Friends Church, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, following a brief illness. Reverend Freer enjoyed a 50 year ministry serving Friends congregations in Cadiz, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, St. Marys, Maple Run Friends Church in Marion, Indiana, Hortonville Friends Church in Sheridan, Indiana, and the Somersville and West Mansfield Friends Churches before retiring in November 2010 to the Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, Indiana. He was a 1954 graduate of Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois and received a Bachelor's of Religious Education from Malone College in 1959. He was an avid model railroad enthusiast and was a voracious reader who possessed a hearty laugh and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed yard work and woodworking and was devoted to his family and the churches that he served. He was born July 29, 1935, in Cleveland to the late Robert D. and Eunice J. Shreve Freer. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bill Hair. Survivors include his wife of over 54 years, Martha Remy Freer, to whom he was married on August 4, 1957, in Bellville; his four sons, Scott (Jody) Freer, Ashland; Mark (Robin) Freer, St. Marys; Keith (Shawnda) Freer, Alexandria, IN; and Kevin (Joey) Freer, Mooresville, IN; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Martha Virginia (Bruce) Ward, LaPorte, IN; a brother-in-law, Stanley (Arlene) Remy, Lexington; several nieces and nephews; and his church family. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012, at the West Mansfield United Methodist Church, 212 East Center St., West Mansfield, where the funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Chris Jackson, Area Superintendent with the Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region, will officiate and burial will take place at York Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made payable to the Friends Fellowship Community or Malone University in care of Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, 222 W.
