Richard L. Hirby, 68, of West Mansfield, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Memorial Hospital of Union County following many months of failing health.

A graduate of West Milton High School, Richard worked as a production coordinator in the weld shop at Honda for 30 years, retiring in 2015. Having a love for motorsports, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and ATV’s, boating, camping, drag racing and watching NASCAR.

Born January 5, 1955 in West Milton, he was the son of the late Paul and Marjorie (Kenyon) Hirby.

On March 13, 1999 in Bellefontaine, he married his wife of over 24 years, Kathleen (Welch) Hirby, and she survives in West Mansfield. He is also survived by a son, Scott Hirby of Urbana; stepchildren, Leah McDonald of West Mansfield, Jason Mills of Harmony and Cliff Graham, Jr. of Springfield; and his sisters, Barb Hildenbrand of Hamilton and Charlene Hughes of West Milton.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes, no calling hours will be held and a graveside service will take place at 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at the Raymond Cemetery. Casual dress is encouraged. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilsonfuneralhomesinc.com
