Robert Lee Merriman, 82, of Marion, went home to be with Jesus on January 25, 2022 at Memorial Hospital of Union County from complications of COVID 19.
A graduate of Mt. Gilead High School, he was a standout athlete on the football, basketball and track teams. He served on City Council in Mt. Gilead, was formerly very active in their Lion’s Club, was an avid hunter and loved to ride snowmobiles. He was planning a trip to ride in the U.P. of Michigan in just a few days. Never one to sit still, he was always working on fixer upper projects around the house.
Robert first owned and operated the SOHIO filling station in Mt. Gilead, then worked in maintenance with HPM in Mt. Gilead, and finally retired from the Whirlpool Corp. in Marion.
Born November 20, 1939 in Broadway, Ohio, he was the son of the late Richard L. Merriman and Avonella Bea (Wolford) Perry. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Drake.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Hollis) Smith of Zanesfield and Debra (fiancé, Dave Stiving) Merriman of Mt. Gilead; and his granddaughters, Kelsie (Chris) Ward and Jessica (Andy) Colondres.
Pastor Jeremy Sarver will officiate a graveside service at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 31, 2022 in the Broadway Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel, 621 W. Fifth St. Marysville. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideon’s International.
