Ronald L. “Ron” Johnson, 76, of West Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at his residence, following a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and companion, Ron graduated from Northwestern High School in Raymond and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon returning from the service, he worked at Westinghouse for 17 years, then ODOT in Logan County for many years until his retirement. Never one to sit still, he was often “tinkering” around the house or in the garage, helping Jerry and Robin and many other friends on their farms, woodworking, going to auctions or attending one of his grandchildren's activities or athletic events. Not only was he blessed with the gift of gab, he was also a great listener. He enjoyed golf cart rides to visit with friends and neighbors, going fishing, and was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ron was a member of the American Legion Post 603 in West Mansfield, the Mt. Carmel Lodge #303 F&AM in Richwood and the West Mansfield Conservation Club.
Born September 25, 1946 in Kenton, he was the son of the late Harold and Betty (McColloch) Johnson. On April 23, 1971in Rialto, CA he married his wife of nearly 33 years, Sandra L. (Bryant) Johnson and she preceded him in death on March 23, 2004. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Patty Johnson; brother-in-law, Dave Nicol and a niece, Janel Nicol.
He is survived by his daughter, Terri Lance of Kenton; grandchildren, Alexis (Cody) Castle and Nick Lance; step-children, Rob Dodds of Bellefontaine; Robin (Jerry) Regula of West Mansfield and Ronnie (Dee) Dodds of Lewistown; step-grandchildren, Dusty (Jessie) Little, Reggie (fiancé, Amber) Regula, LeAnn Regula and Kyle (Becky) VanBuskirk; step-great grandchildren, Levi and Leah Little, Kai, Kayleb and Ketzy VanBuskirk; a sister, Deb Nicol of Marysville; a brother, Bruce (Karen) Johnson of Raymond; his special friend and companion, Betty Thornton of West Mansfield; her children and grandchildren, Kelly (Laura Ingram) Thornton, Pat Thornton, Connor and Kelsey Thornton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Services to honor Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 1, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Logan County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to the Logan County Cancer Society or the West Mansfield Conservation Club, in care of the funeral home.
