Ruthann Smith "Cookie" Reed, 72, of Marysville, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Union County with her loving family by her side. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, to say Cookie was one of a kind is putting it mildly. Loyalty, honesty and dedication are just a few of her best traits. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading mysteries, crafts and singing throughout the community with her father for different groups and organizations. A 1963 graduate of Marysville High School, she was a member of the marching band, the Girls Ensemble (Show Choir) and Choir, then attended the Columbus Business College. Cookie worked as an administrative assistant at the Ohio State University in the choir department at the college of education. She then worked for 24 years as a legal assistant with Cannizzarro, Bridges, Jillisky & Streng where she was known for her dependability and attention to detail. A lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the senior choir at the church and very active with Trinity School. Born June 26, 1945 in Marysville, she was the daughter of James and Helen (Poling) Smith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kendra Vanscoy; a sister-in-law, Judith Smith; special step brother-in-law, Richard Wibley and a dear friend, Judy Cotter. On April 24, 1965, she and he husband of nearly 53 years, Merrill Reed were married at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. EJ Goedking. In addition to Merrill, Cookie is survived by her son, Kelly (Jody) Reed of Marysville; grandchildren, Nathaniel Calkins-Reed, Juels Calkins-Reed, Jacob Vanscoy, Devyn Reed and Bryleigh Reed; 6 great grandchildren; a godson, Jim O'Neill; brothers, Ron Smith of Columbus and Tim (Anne) Smith of Lexington Park, MD; Sisters-in-law, Sherrill and Candy and brother-in-law, Max; dear friends, Nancy Ward, Ann Anderson, Garnet Rausch and Barry Denune. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Barry Scott will officiate and burial will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contribution can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School or the Alzheimer's Association.
