Sidney Edward Proffitt Sidney Edward Proffitt, age 73, of Bellefontaine died Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in the ER at Mary Rutan Hospital following an extended illness. A longtime mechanic, Sidney was formerly employed with Eagle Mobile Repair and Tip Trucking. He was an avid fisherman, spending many relaxing hours with his line in the water at Delaware State Park, and was a very capable woodworker having built many shelves, cabinets and other treasured pieces for family and friends. He was "James Dean" cool, admired by many and was a hero to his family. He loved tinkering around the house and staying busy, but always took time to watch NASCAR and root for Dale Earnhardt Sr., and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. More than anything, he was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud "PawPaw". He was born August 14, 1939, in Richland, Virginia, the 2nd of 11 children to the late John and Pearl Thacker Proffitt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia "Peach" Nickelson. Survivors include his wife of nearly 19 years, Carolyn S. LeMaster Proffitt, to whom he was married on January 23, 1994; his daughters, Sindey (Sean) Baldwin, Marysville; and Janey Proffitt, and her fiancé©, James Pulfer, each of Kenton; 5 grandchildren, Derrick White, Bailey Baldwin, Destiny Proffitt, Brock Jolliff, and Jonathan Seals; 5 sisters, Ethel (Ron) Holcomb, California; Juanita Postlethwaite, Milford Center; Thelma (Buddy) Long, Arizona; Ruby Hoffine, Plain City; and Caroline Salyers, Marysville; 4 brothers, Donald (Barb) Proffitt, Hawaii; Jack Proffitt, Illinois; Wayne (Terry) Proffitt, Calinfornia; and R.J. Proffitt, Delaware; 3 sisters-in-law, Donna (John) Adams, Richwood; Dotty Hutchins, Marion; and Shelby (Terry) LeVan, Kenton; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012, from1-3 p.m. at Mannasmith Funeral Home to celebrate Sidney's life. No formal service will be observed and burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
