Thomas G. "Tom" Stanley Thomas G. "Tom" Stanley, age 75, of West Mansfield died Friday, September 28, 2012, at Mary Rutan Hospital. He was retired from Navistar following 30 years of employment and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Tom was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor who loved Dachshund dogs, but found very little enjoyment in cats. He and his wife travelled many happy miles together in their RV, and he loved to often satisfy his sweet tooth with chocolate candies. He was an avid hunter in his younger years and was always a sports car enthusiast. More than anything, he was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandpa and great-grandpa. He was born July 20, 1937, in Bellefontaine, to the late Granville Stanley and Doris Inskeep Stanley. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Floris "Flo" Meddles Stanley, to whom he was married on August 13, 1960, at the East Liberty Church of Christ by the Reverend George Hunt; his daughters, Tami (Tony) Dowell, Zanesfield; and Darlene Stanley, Columbus; a grandson, Adam (Karen) Dowell, Bellefontaine; great-grandson, Ethan; his sister, Barbara (Chris) Proicou, Columbus; a sister-in-law, Dixie (Jerry) Alexander, Melbourne, FL; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield, where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Jason Robson will officiate. A time for refreshments and additional fellowship will follow the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dachshund Rescue of North America Fund or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
