Wayne Stearns

Wayne E. Stearns, 77, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the OSU Medical Center surrounded by his family, following many months of failing health.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he loved to either sit in the gazeebo and watch the fish in the pond, or sit on the porch and watch all of the birds. With a strong work ethic and sharp mind, he was always trying to solve issues and make something work. He was also an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team.

A graduate of McComb High School, he also attended Bowling Green State University where he studied Chemistry. He worked in R&D with Scott’s for 33 years and also farmed most of his life.

Born September 1, 1944 in Hoytville, he was the son of the late Jason and Lulu (Hammersmith) Stearns. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dale, Kenneth, Paul and William.

On December 9, 1965 in Findlay, he married his wife of over 56 years, Jeanne (Wiggins) Stearns, and she survives in West Mansfield. He is also survived by his daughters, Christina Cook of  Richwood and Diane (Charles) Deardorff of Marysville; a son, James (Delia) Stearns of Galloway; grandchildren, Chad Cook, Megan, Miranda and Logan Deardorff, Jaci Wood, Ajia Gillum, Shannon Deardorff and Mary Lou Willison; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Tyrell of Bowling Green and sisters-in-law, Geneva Stearns of Defiance and Eloise Stearns of Florida.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Friends may call prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Memorial contributions can be made to the Union County Humane Society.
