Thelma Jean "Babe" Mathys, 92, of Richwood passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at her residence.

A loving homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandma, Thelma was a faithful member of the Grace Chapel House of Prayer. She was a 1947 graduate of Northwestern High School. She enjoyed reading and being surrounded by her family and will be remembered as a wonderful cook.

She was born December 7, 1928, in Peoria to the late Frank and Mildred Sarver Wood. On June 29, 1947 on the front porch of the parsonage of the Zanesfield Presbyterian Church, she was married by Brother Furby to her loving husband of over 72 years, James Martin Mathys and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2018. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Carrol Mathys; a sister, Margaret Kincaid and a brother, Carl Wood.

She is survived by her children; Lorna Poling of Richwood, Zane (Cathy) Mathys of Bellefontaine, Morgan (Paula) Mathys of Peoria, Rhonda (Robin) Winkle of Marion, Jonathan (Brenda) Mathys of Bellefontaine, Rochelle (Pat) White of Jackson, Tammy (Darren) White of Richwood and Joseph (Emily) Mathys of Marysville; 27 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters; Elnora Richardson, Arlene Perkins and Ruth (Bill) Foreman all of Marysville; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Mathys of West Mansfield and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Grace Chapel House of Prayer 17935 OH-739 Richwood. Her grandson, Pastor Darnell Mathys and Pastor Larry Burchette will officiate and burial will follow at York Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 11:00-12:00 Saturday at the church. Covid precautions will be practiced at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carrol Mathys Compassion Fund at Grace Chapel House of Prayer in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at www.wilsonfuneralhomesinc.com
